Event Safety Management Training (Online)

Hannah-Rossmorris-CNThe implications of not taking risk and safety seriously can become a big concern for organisers and meeting planners, which is one reason why Sheffield Hallam University says it has redesigned its Event Safety Management course.

Accredited by the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH), and targeted at busy event professionals, the course accepts its first intake in February 2015 at the university’s Event Management Hub.

The new Event Safety Management course builds on a previous incarnation, but course leaders say delivery has been changed to make it more accessible to participants both from the UK and beyond.
Freelance event safety consultant, and Senior Lecturer at the university, Hannah Rossmorris (pictured), says: “To have an event specific version of the IOSH level 3 Managing Safely qualification is a really important development for the events industry and we have now changed the format to be partly online which makes the whole process so much less demanding on the learners’ time”.

The course offers insights into current legislation, and focuses upon the practical actions to ensure safety at events, Rossmorris adds, and the delivery is a mix of practical, theoretical and on-line learning, designed to enable participants to weave it flexibly around their work commitments and also connect the learning to the real issues they are facing in their events.

The Event Safety Management course culminates in two consecutive face-to-face days and the opportunity to share experiences with like-minded event colleagues.
