Junior Event Manager

We are looking to recruit freelance event manager(s) to assist our in-house management team with the delivery of our Luminate winter light trails throughout November and December 2021. We have opportunities available at Senior Event Manager level and Assistant Event Manager level.


The role is for a fixed short-term contract of approximately 6-7 weeks, from approx 5th November to end Dec 2021. Exact dates will vary based on each Event site start/finish date.

Hours of Work: On live event days approx. 2.30pm -10.30pm. Non – event days, hours will vary – approx. 8am – 6pm.


Day rate negotiable based on position offered and previous relevant experience/qualifications.


We are looking for Senior Event Manager(s) to be an Event lead at our winter light trails and Junior Event Manager(s) to act as an assistant to the lead on site. These roles will be supporting our in-house management team across all sites. Senior Event Manager roles will involve operating as an on-site lead for the event(s) on many & various nights (dependant on rotas/location of our in-house management team).

The role will include all elements of Event Management – including assuming responsibility for all Health & Safety opening checks, daily risk assessment, managing a full stewarding team (including responsibility for time stamping the stewarding team), liaising with car-parking team/security team/medical team/creative lighting partners/catering outlets and venue staff. It will also include the management of all public visitors on site and dealing with any issues that should arise.

The role will also involve management/organisation on site throughout set-up & de-rig of the event.

The Junior Event Manager Role will be assisting the Senior Event Manager and in- house management team, as needed to successfully deliver the above.        


Relevant Experience is essential for our Senior Event Manager roles. It is preferred for Junior Event Manager Roles.

Our Expectations:

We are looking to recruit individuals who are confident, hard-working, friendly and self-motivating. All roles will be hands-on, as is our own management style and that of our in-house team. There is an expectation that everybody will work together and get stuck in with whatever is required to ensure delivery of a really successful event. We very much expect that our managers (senior and junior – alongside our in-house team) will be out on their feet for the majority of every shift, walking the trail, checking all is running well, supervising & looking out for our stewarding team and being a highly visible, welcoming presence for our public visitors and venue partners.  The Event obviously takes place over Winter in the late afternoon/evening time – it will go ahead regardless of the weather (unless it is so extreme that it would be unsafe to do so), so it will be cold, dark and often very wet! Venues/Location: Various across the UK – to include Sandringham, Norfolk; Margam Park, S Wales; Coombe Abbey, Coventry; Walton Gardens, Cheshire; Victoria Park, Southport & a 6th location TBC. Accommodation will be provided for any non-local venues.   

Event(s): Outdoor illuminated light trail, open nightly to the public from approx. 4pm to 10.00pm. Pre-bought tickets, sold for set entry timeslots staggered across the night. Mainly family audience – max capacity varies per site approx. 2,000 -2,500 per night.

Selection Process:

Our short-listed candidates will be contacted by ourselves via email, to confirm that they have been successful at the initial stage and will be invited through to interview stage. We will notify all successful candidates of this by Friday 6th August.

Initial interviews will be conducted via Zoom, with a secondary in-person interview scheduled for those successful after initial interview.
